We talked to Amos Silver, the CEO and founder of Tel Aviv’s largest weed delivery app: Telegrass.
Tel Aviv has been slowly growing more and more into a cannabis destination, with the city becoming more popular every day. If you’re looking for a way to find some weed in Tel Aviv, Telegrass is the perfect app for you. The app provides an easy and mess-free way for cannabis enthusiasts to get their hands on marijuana quickly and easily. This single app has made positive changes by increasing access to cannabis in public places such as restaurants, bars, cafes and hotels. Meet the man behind Telemair – Amos Silver – 33-year-old Israeli stoners who started this revolution in pot culture!
What inspired you to create the app?
טלגראס began with a Facebook page. When the page became too much of a pressure, I put together a small team. Now we have 30 channels and are currently looking for ways to make the application more user-friendly.
How does one become a Telegrass dealer?
Anyone who wants to sell weed can become a dealer on our platform. However, they need to go through the verification process of providing an ID, a Facebook account, and selfies of them. We also ask them to send us a photo containing weed so that we can confirm whether they really want to sell and are not just sniffing around the group. Plus, with photos of the product, we have some leverage in case they try to steal from us.
What are the benefits of dealing via this platform?
The first step is to expose the dealership to a larger audience. We can provide them with more exposure than anywhere else in the world. The second step is ensuring that both parties involved are protected. If they’re not playing straight and doing shady business, we’ve got their details on file and the power to place them on our Wall of Shame.
But isn’t it easy for police officers to get onto the app?
Well, we have another channel for undercover cops called: “Undercover Against Humanity.” Unfortunately, the channel only made the police angrier, and enabled them to catch me more easily.
Is it true that you have a warrant out for your arrest?
I don’t know what the police will do. What I do know is that Israel has recently been a topic of conversation, and I believe they are considering it.
And that’s why you’re abroad?
Years of spending time in my parents’ garden shed as a young teenager are what led to my weed-related criminal record. Furthermore, they took away my driver’s license, deciding that as a weed smoker I’m not prepared for the road. Sadly, America is where I come from so it was the natural thing to do.
In Israel, cannabis is considered a legally-regulated drug. The legal status can vary depending on the kind of strain and amount consumed by an individual. Wouldn’t it be interesting to see how weed use might change in the future?
When it comes to buying weed, you used to have to find someone willing to sell it first. You would be hard pressed to find anything for less than 100 shekels, and if you could then it was probably skunk. Today, especially in Tel Aviv, prices are so low that 5 grams of the good stuff can sell for 90 shekels or less.
People living in smaller cities are finding more vendors to sell weed in Tel Aviv. When no one is selling in their city, they can work as a dealer, utilizing Telegrass while making ends meet. The company employs people who need to eat and pay their rent, have kids, and live in small cities.
Telegrass has fostered relationships with a lot of talented minds, and I’m honored to have them on my team. I’m proud of every member and myself.
