What is CV?
Resume is one of the most effective job search tools. This is a summary of the most important facts of your resume for a potential employer, mainly related to your work experience, skills and knowledge. On average, it takes no more than 1-2 minutes to read a resume, so it is very important to immediately attract the attention of the employer, interest him and encourage you to schedule an interview. When creating a resume, keep in mind that it will be your business card and should set you apart from the whole stream of people looking for work.
What is the structure, write a CV?
The summary is usually 1-2 pages long and includes the following blocks:
- Contact Information:
- Name and surname (can be omitted from the father).
- Address (complete, including index).
- Phone (home, contact, work with the city code; work phone is indicated only if you have the opportunity to communicate freely in the workplace).
- Email address (if you don’t already have a personal mailbox, be sure to create one before sending your resume).
- Purpose (optional, but desirable): brief information about what position you want to get and why you are applying for it (no more than 6 lines, preferably 2-3). If the resume is sent to a specific vacancy, the name or code of this vacancy is written instead of the goal. If you have several different goals, you can make two or three resume options. It is better to have several resumes focused on different aspects than one general one.
- Qualification. The most important information for your potential employer about your professional skills, strengths and achievements is briefly indicated.
- Work experience is indicated in reverse chronological order (first place of work is indicated first). This is the most important part of the resume, which describes the professional experience (usually for the last 10 years) according to the following scheme:
- the company name;
- direction of the company’s activity;
- terms of work;
- position;
- job responsibilities;
- professional skills and achievements.
Use action verbs such as developed, saved, increased or decreased when describing your achievements.
- Education. The more time has passed since graduation, the less space this item should take up in the resume; for graduates and students it is necessary to place it before the previous one, because if there is work experience, it is less significant. You can announce awards, emphasize those disciplines that are relevant to your goal. It is also worth mentioning additional education: courses, seminars, trainings, internships, etc.
- Additional information: knowledge of foreign languages and computer, driver’s license, membership in professional organizations, etc. (hobbies should be mentioned only if it is closely related to the desired job).
Recommendations.
Indicate the possibility of providing recommendations and write a CV.
It is not necessary to indicate or include in the summary:
- your entire CV (in fact, your potential employer is only interested in the last 3-5 jobs and a period of no more than 10 years);
- your physical data and description of health;
- your weaknesses;
- the reasons why you left work;
- letters of recommendation or names of people who can recommend you (prepare this list separately, you may need it at the interview).
