Psycho thrillers have captivated the attention of the global cinephiles for since long. Many films have set the stage for making stupendous films in this genre. The recent Malayalam film 3:33 Moonu Muppathi Moonu is not an exception to that trait. So, this article will provide you with a detailed glance into that movie.
Nambikkai Chandru’s first film stars one of the most popular media figures- Sandy as Kathi, and other stars such as Shruthi Selvam, Mime Gopi, Reshma Pasupuleti, Rama, and others. 10th December 2021 marks its release date, and critics have acclaimed this as a good debutante film. Bamboo Trees Productions is the main production house of the film where Jeevitha Kishore produced the film.

The cinema, however, travels around similar horror narratives of shifting to a new house and encountering supernatural elements. In this film, Sandy, who plays the role of Kathir, shifts to a new residence along with her family.
His girlfriend gifts Kathir a clock. Weirdly, the watch makes a sound every day when it strikes 3:33. Are you finding similarities with The Conjuring? Well, that is quite evident. 3.33 is when the spirit arrives at the house, and the different sound marks its presence.
The rest of the story revolves around how Kathir deals with this spirit. Even if the story more or less follows the typical narrative structure, the plotline is unique as far as the Tamil film industry, especially Tamil horrors, is concerned.
The flashbacks constitute a unique creation of the movie. Unlike other films, these are not melodramatic. There is no tendency to incorporate humor in it, and the director tried to do full justice to the horror genre.
The writing portion is also not disappointing. Because the film is the director’s debut, it is a pretty good product. If you can drag yourself through the first 30minutes, then the rest of the story is interesting. When Kathir is confirmed about the presence of the spirit, the story takes a different turn. In the opening 30 minutes, some repetitions might bore you. However, after that, the director carries the film forward excitingly.
But, after some time, again, the enthusiasm settles. Jump scares and templates dominate the film, leading to its narrative degeneration. However, the background plot for the story’s introduction is undoubtedly interesting and unique, if not convincing.
Movie aesthetics
Harshavardhan Rameshwar’s background score is refreshing. The music levels up the film at different places. Satish Manohoran did fantastic work as the cinematographer. Sandy’s introduction on the silver screen after his Bog Boss hits has also surprised the critics and the audience alike. The scene where the camera focuses on a shaking door handle instead of the door is a unique shot.
Moreover, no matter what the script is, if an editor is best at their work, a film is bound to reach a different level. 3:33 is not an exception to that as well. The editor of the film, Deepak Dwarkanath, worked well.
Final Thoughts
3:33 Moonu Mupathi Moonu is an excellent horror flick that you can watch with your family. Get yourself some chips and cold drinks if you get bored at some places. Otherwise, it is fun to watch.
