Goundamani better known as Subramanian was born on March 18, 1939, in Vallakondapuram, Coimbatore district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, the son of Karuppaiya and Annamma.

Goundamani, who acted in plays in the early days, played many roles in plays and made a name for himself in acting. One of the plays in which he played the role of “Ur Counter” became so popular that people started calling him Goundamani from that day onwards.
