M. G. Ramachandran Biography: Born to Kerala parents, Marudur Gopalan Ramachandran. His parents, Melakadu Gopala Menon and Marudur Satyabhama, lived in Vadavanur, Palakkad, Kerala. But since MGR’s father was a lawyer, there were several charges against him. Due to this, he fled from his own home in Kerala. He went to Sri Lanka and started his life. That is where MG Ramachandran was born.

Melakadu Gopala Menon was reportedly expelled from Kerala because they had an affair with a Brahmin widow. Following the traditions of the Kerala community, his fellow human beings ‘smarted’ him and expelled him from the city. His family also accepted this. Because of this, he fled to Ceylon. Melakadu Gopala Menon was married to Marudur Satyabhama in Ceylon.

MGR immersed himself in acting during his youth. His father died when he was a boy. After the death of his father, he was unable to continue his studies due to family circumstances and was forced to earn money, so he started acting in plays.

MG Ramachandran had kidney problems. In October 1984, he was admitted to Townstate Hospital in Brooklyn, USA, due to kidney failure. That same year, he underwent a kidney transplant. He finally fell ill in 1987. He died of natural causes on December 24, 1987. MGR’s death caused a stir in Tamil Nadu.

Final Words

In 1960, MG Ramachandran was nominated for the Padma Shri of India. But he refused to accept it because of the government’s reckless behavior. Because he wanted the award to be in his native Tamil instead of the traditional Hindi words.
