Sarojini Naidu was born on February 13, 1879, in Hyderabad to a Bengali Hindu Gulin Brahmin family. His father, Agoranath Chattopadhyaya, was a scientist, educator, and philosopher. He is the founder of Nizam College in Hyderabad. Sarojini Naidu’s mother Bharata Sundari Devi is a female poet and has written many poems in Bengali.
Born the eldest of eight siblings, Sarojini Naidu. One of his brothers, Brendranath, was a revolutionary. His other brother Harindranath was a poet, playwright, and actor.

Sarojini Naidu was an intelligent student from a young age. He is fluent in Urdu, Telugu, English, Bengali, and Persian. At the age of twelve, he passed the matriculation examination at the University of Chennai and rose to national prominence. His father wanted to make him a mathematician or a scientist. But Sarojini Naidu was more interested in writing poetry for them. So, he started writing English poetry.
Sarojini Naidu took a break from her studies and read various books. The Nizam of Hyderabad, who was inspired by his work of writing many poems, also went abroad and offered him scholarships. At the age of 16, he went to England and attended King’s College in London.
Later, he studied at Gordon College in Cambridge. There he met his contemporary geniuses ‘Arthur Simon’ and Edmund Goss. Kass advised Sarojini Naidu to write poems on the themes of India – the great mountains, rivers, temples, social environment, etc.
He portrayed contemporary Indian life and events in his poems. Sarojini Naidu’s works “The Golden Threshold (1905)”, “The Part of Time (1912)”, and “The Broken Wing (1912)” attracted Indian and English readers.
Sarojini Naidu was appointed Ambassador of the Home Rule League to England in July 1919. He returned to India in July 1920. In 1919, the British government enacted the Roulette Act, a law that made it illegal to keep awareness documents. To combat the law, Mohandas Gandhi launched the Non-Cooperation Movement.
Sarojini Naidu was the first to support the movement on behalf of women. Sarojini Naidu was one of the two Indian National Congress members who participated in the East African Indian Congress in 1924.

Sarojini Naidu died of a heart attack on March 2, 1949, in her office.
