What is the OBC Certificate?
OBC Certificate means Other Backward Classes Certificate. This certificate has been brought in by the Central Government and the State Government to give priority in employment if the scheme is introduced. This certificate is divided into 2 types.
- Creamy Layer
- Non-Creamy Layer
What is Creamy Layer?
Creamy Layer means if the family income is more than Rs 8 lakh. You do not need to make any reservation for this.
What is Non-Creamy Layer?
If the family income is more than Rs 8 lakh then you need this OBC Certificate. This is called the Non-Creamy Layer Certificate.
Apply OBC Certificate Online in Tamilnadu Step By Step Guide

- Login to the Tnesevai website.
- After opening the website you first need to create an account and register the CAN Number. We looked at how to do that in a previous article.
- On the Dashboard, click the “Revenue Department” Link.

Once you click on the service mentioned above, you will be redirected to the page below to select the certificate you want to apply for.
Select Other Backward Classes (OBC) Certificate from the list of options to proceed with the application.
Once you have selected the certificate, you will be redirected to the page below with a list of procedures for applying for the OBC Certificate online.
Now you need to search for your CAN number using the registered mobile number or reference number. If you do not have a CAN number, register a new one using the “Register” button.
You have to fill up personal details such as,
- Religion
- Occupational Group
- Serial Number of the Caste in Central List of OBC(To check click here)
- Status of Husband- Whether Alive?
- Nature of Occupation
- Designation
- Status
- Pay of Scale
- Status of Mother
Once you have filled up all the details submit the OBC certificate application form.
