Dayananda Saraswati Biography: Swami Dayananda Saraswati, better known as Moolasankar, was born on 12 February 1824 in Dankara, Gujarat, India to Karsan Lalji Tiwari and Eshotabai in a Brahmin family. His father worked as a tax collector.
Moolasankar was born into a well-to-do family and was raised with great influence at home. Thus he was taught at home. He grew up learning Sanskrit and other religions at an early age. At one point his parents were very upset to see that his sister and uncle were suffering from cholera.
This event not only raised many questions in the minds of Swami Dayananda Saraswati but also led them to engage in spiritual contemplation. Then when he was twenty his parents wanted to end the marriage. However, Swami Dayananda Saraswati left home in 1846, not wanting to live at home.

Swami Dayananda Saraswati, who hated family life and left home, not only made spiritual journeys to many places in India, but also practiced yoga. After about 15 years of spiritual pursuits, he eventually became a disciple of Swamiji Virajananda, who lived in Madurai.
Swami Dayananda Saraswati, who had learned the realities of life and the Vedas, lost faith in the idolatry of God in the late 1837s and began to expose the deceptions and scams perpetrated in the name of religion. He started an organization called “Arya Samaj” to teach the education and wisdom he had learned.
Dayananda Saraswati, who actively campaigned for progressive measures such as equal rights for women, girls’ education, and the abolition of untouchability, was totally opposed to the child marriage system of the time. He also spoke and wrote in support of widows remarrying. He spread English education across the country and wrote the book “Sathyarth Prakash and Pratima Pujan Vichar”.
