Ilaiyaraaja Biography: He was born on June 2, 1943, on a farm in the Theni district in Tamil Nadu, South India, to Daniel Ramasamy and Chinnathayammal, to a Hindu family who had converted to Christianity. His given name is Gnanadesikan. He has three brothers, Pavalar Varadarajan, Daniel Bhaskar, and Amar Singh, and two sisters, Kamalammal and Padmavathi.

Born an evangelist, he was renamed Daniel Rasiah and enrolled in school. After some time, he was renamed Rajaya and everyone called him Rasaiya. He was very interested in playing instruments from an early age and started learning instruments from Tanraj Master.
He mastered playing Western instruments such as harmonium, piano and guitar and changed his name to ‘Master’. He dropped out of school because of poverty at home.
Inspired by folk songs at the age of 14, he joined the theater troupe with his brothers at the age of 19, in 1961, and went to many places in India and attended more than twenty thousand concerts and plays.
